We currently support 14 nurseries and we have set up a Food Bank in 7 of them, this expands further where there is a campus. We re-stock regularly providing healthy nutritious options for all the family. We base the food on breakfast, lunch, dinner along with some snacks. We also supply the Food Bank with cleaning products which include soap powder, shower gel, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo etc.
Our Food Banks has proven to be a vital link with up to 200 families benefitting each month, with the families taking only the very essentials that they need.
The feedback we have received back from the nurseries is very positive and heart-warming, particularly during this cost of living crisis. It makes us realise how much our support is needed.
We work with families living across some of the most deprived communities in North Glasgow, South Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire, including Easterhouse, Garthamlock, Ruchazie, Milton, Possilpark, Springburn, Riddrie and Haghill. Glasgow contains some of the areas of greatest need and widest health inequalities in Western Europe (Poverty and Mental Health, Knifton and Inglis, 2020). Research by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (Going under and without, December 2022) found that three quarters of households in the bottom 20% of incomes are going without food or other basic essentials like clothing or toiletries. Families are seeing rising and worrying levels of hardship. We have seen firsthand how many families struggle to live on low incomes, especially when their children are vulnerable due to illness or disability.

" We here up at Benview Early Years, have been lucky enough for Linda and everyone from Sunshine Wishes support over the past couple of years. There support has been a crucial lifeline to our families at times when they have had no one else to turn to. Sunshine Wishes help keep our food pantry going, every month they drop off a fantastic donation of vital food supplies, this allows not only our families from the nursery to access this but also our two primary schools we have attached to us, Highpark Primary & LCR and St Cuthberts Primary. We are very grateful for this support as our are families.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone from Sunshine Wishes again in particular Linda who goes over and above for our families. Without there support we would not be able to provide the support that we do " - Sam, Benview Early Years.

" The Food bank Project removes so much pressure from families and is a vital link in the community,
which has high deprivation.” Debbie, Lamlash Nursey.

" This is fantastic for so many of our families here in Milton " Joyce, Milton Nursery.
" Scaraway Nursery has received fantastic support from Sunshine Wishes Children's Charity by providing a Food Bank to help our families with food every week, we are so grateful for this resource as there is definitely a need for this support in the Milton area. Sunshine Wishes Children's Charity have supported our nursery and families in many other ways and for this we can't thank them enough. " Pauline , Scaraway Nursery.
